Training center would damage colonial heritage [John Root]
The proposed site in Ruthsburg for the Foreign Affairs Security Training Center (FASTC) will damage irreparably our rural colonial heritage. It is an early American masterpiece. [...]

New intersection for Commerce Street?
Let’s hope not, but it looks to be heading in that direction. St. Paul’s Church has been given site plan approval for an expansion and renovation. In other words, they’re going to be plunking a big old parking lot and new addition right in the middle of the historic Downtown area. (Am I [...]
Fate of Providence Farm property uncertain
Efforts to preserve one of the most important historic sites in Queen Anne’s County are being stymied by an accident of property lines and the cost of annexation to the town of Centreville. “Providence Farm is well-researched,” says Marie Malaro, referring to the mansion on Centreville’s southeastern outskirts that dates to the 1730s. Malaro, who is president [...]

Watching Out for Our Front Door
How many times a week does each of us pull off Route 301 North and head to Centreville via Route 213? The intersection of those two state highways is significant because it is the ‘front door’ to Centreville. Right now it is a cloverleaf of four farms. Not for long, my friends. Two of the farms, on [...]

Centreville is fortunate to have an interesting and important history. To learn more about its history, we suggest reading the Queen Anne’s County Maryland by Frederic Emory.

As Queen Anne’s County prepares for its 300th anniversary, more interest is being placed on Centreville’s importance as the county seat. For more information, we suggest you contact local historian Mary Margaret Goodwin or the Queen Anne’s County Historical Society.
